Central Washington University’s Laughing Horse
Youth Orchestra Festival provides students in grades K-12 with an inspiring,
educational summer orchestral experience at CWU. Participants will work
with outstanding professional musicians, perform high quality repertoire, and
explore different aspects of music. Activities include large ensemble
rehearsals & sectionals, chamber music ensembles, masterclasses, technique
& exploratory classes, and the opportunity to form life-long friendships.
FESTIVAL ENSEMBLES
Laughing Horse Festival Orchestra
Provides an intensive orchestral experience for advanced string, woodwind,
brass, and percussion students. Students will also participate in chamber music
ensembles and masterclasses coached by artist faculty.
Lauging Horse Debut & Academy Orchestras
Provide excellent training for intermediate string students. Includes
full-group rehersal, sectionals, and chamber music experience.
Laughing Horse Beginning Strings
Provides a structured introductory experience for students with little or no
experience playing a string instrument. Beginning strings classes meet from
9AM through 12PM. Each day includes time focused on learning how to play string
instruments and general music activities. Students will be grouped into two
age groups: 5-7 & 8-12. Instruments will be provided on a first-registered,
first-served basis with no additional fee.
ELECTIVES
Each afternoon students will participate in a three hour block of
electives. Students will sign up for a total of six different electives on the
first day of the festival.
